Andrew Sather, born and raised in the Madison area, got his start in graphic design as a student at the UW-Madison.
In 1995, he started Adjacency, a multidisciplinary internet consultancy which he moved to San Francisco in 1996. The firm provided business strategy, internet technology and Web design for clients such as Apple Computer, Caterpillar, Harman Kardon, SC Johnson, Land Rover, Lufthansa, Mohawk Paper Mills, Nordstrom, Patagonia, Rollerblace, Specialized, TAG Heuer, Virgin, The White House, and Williams-Sonoma. His work has appeared in Graphis, Print, Critique, Advertising Age and Creativity magazines, and been recognized with a gold Clio award and gold and silver pencils from the One Show. In 1999, he sold Adjacency to Sapient Corporation (www.sapient.com) for whom he expanded the design discipline into Europe, conducted M&A activities, and helped to develop Ferrari's internet strategy.
In 2002, Andrew returned to Madison and the UW, from which he received his BS in Art (graphic design concentration) and English (creative writing emphasis). Following graduation, he agreed to teach the UW Graphic Design program's Portfolio Development & Professional Practice class for two years. Meanwhile, he continued to start and grow businesses, the most successful of which is the Professional Aptitude Council (www.proaptitude.com).
In 2006, Andrew became the CEO of Goldenbleu (www.goldenbleu.com), a high-end women's fashion accessories line based in San Francisco. Goldenbleu's handbags and shoes are available at such boutiques as Intermix and Milk, department stores including Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, and select online retailers. Andrew loves his job.
Andrew resides in San Francisco and Madison and wants every young Wisconsin graphic designer to know that if they want it badly enough, they too can live the dream.
Brody Rose earned his MFA from UW-Madison by uniting his love for graphic design, photography and hip-hop. His passion for urban design helped him create madisonhiphop.com. This web site opened many avenues for Rose, who is also a DJ. Using the name Bro DJ, Rose has opened for acts like Dave Chappelle, Common, and Talib Kweli. Rose also became spokesperson for the hip-hop community and has been quoted in many papers and in television newscasts.
In addition to being a DJ, Rose is a talented graphic designer. He uses his photography and design skills to pull together an impressive collection of posters, CD packages and fliers representing a broad range of hip-hop artists. Rose has also worked for the university, local magazines and other companies in and around Madison.
Presently, Rose is a successful freelance designer in Washington D.C. and is still tapped into the music community. He has earned the respect of many design firms and musicians for his ability to remain honest and sincere in what he does. This has been a long, but rewarding journey for Rose, who also battles with depression. He uses his creative outlets to help him through tough times. Brody wants all those who live with depression to know that, even though life can look pretty dark, there is always light at the end of the tunnel - just hang on and keep moving forward.
