The Skinny:
Hailing from Fort Atkinson, Cyrus Highsmith attended college at Rhode Island School of Design where he studied with famed typographer Franz Werner and first connected with Matthew Carter. Now he works at the same foundry as Carter, Font Bureau, where he is equally at home designing a calligraphic script for a wedding invitation as he is designing an industrial strength sans serif. He has exhibited his work worldwide, developed proprietary faces for publications from Martha Stewart Living to the Wall Street Journal, and developed a number of fonts that if they're not already on your machine, really ought to be. He teaches typography at Rhode Island School of Design, where we have it on good authority that his presentations surprise and delight even the non-type-nerd folks.
All speaker events are located at The Brink Lounge unless otherwise noted and subject to date change or cancellation without notice. When everything is a go, we start mixing it up at 6:00 p.m. Speakers take the stage at 6:30 p.m. Paid-up dm members attend free. Nonmembers pay $35 per speaker event. Nonmember students pay $10. Social events are attended free of charge to Design Madison members and non-members alike. Cash bar.
